This session will provide an overview of the likely impact on the Scottish dental profession of Brexit. It will provide an overview of the mechanics of Brexit implementation and current political uncertainties. It is intended to assist in understanding the day-to-day impact of Brexit on practices looking at the challenges for practices both in the short term and over the next few years in terms of people, supply chains and regulatory and economic implications. The session is designed to increase awareness of Brexit-related operational risks and assist in identifying, mitigating and planning for management of risk to practices. Development Outcome C. Regulation of the Dental Team – where are we now?

Aims
To provide an update on regulation of the dental team, recent developments and how the dental team in Scotland is regulated.
Objectives
By the end of this lecture, participants should:
1. Be aware of how the GDC deals with cases;
2. Be aware of recent developments at the GDC;
3. Be aware of NHS Tribunals in Scotland; and
4. Be aware of how to (or how not to) get into trouble with the GDC.
Learning content
This lecture is intended to explain and create understanding of the UK regulator of the dental team, the General Dental Council, to help attendees understand the processes and how to avoid getting into trouble with the GDC, together with an understanding of other forms of professional regulation in Scotland.
