Shortlist announced

The Scottish Dental awards will return to the Glasgow Hilton on Friday 26 April, with award-winning comedian Fred MacAulay hosting and music by Glasgow-based DJ group Pretty Ugly Club, this black-tie gala event is not to be missed. Judging for the awards took place on 27 March and you can view the shortlist below.

Trainer of the Year

This award recognises the trainers who promote the highest standards of dental training, safeguard patient care and safety and go the extra mile for their trainees. In association with the Faculty of Dental Training, we are looking for those individuals who create a positive learning environment for their trainees whatever the discipline or career stage. If they are involved with training in any capacity, we want to know why they should be recognised.

This award is for anyone in any area of dentistry who has training responsibilities.

Young Clinician of the Year (Dentist)

Nominees for this award will have shown an exceptional level of commitment to patient care early on in their career. They should be inspirational individuals who regularly go the extra mile for their patients and colleagues. We want to hear about people who have made a real difference to their patients, their teams, their colleagues and dental practice.

Young Dentist of the Year

This category – sponsored by Scottish Building Society – is open to any dentist working in any area of the dental profession. The nominated dentist must be under 30 years of age as of 27 April 2019. Details of postgraduate qualifications, testimonials from colleagues, tutors and patients are essential.

Team Award

We are looking for teams who have worked together to make an exceptional contribution to delivering excellent patient care and/or to dentistry.

The team could be working in primary or secondary care or public dental services, the NHS or private practice. They may be working across organisations. They may be clinicians, practitioners, researchers, academics, manufacturers, professional organisations, or any combination of these, but they will be able to demonstrate exemplary teamwork, inspirational commitment and outcomes that have made a real difference to patients, dentistry and oral health in Scotland, the UK or internationally.

The Scottish Dental Lifetime Achievement Award

Nominees for this award will have made a significant contribution to dentistry in Scotland and the wider world throughout their careers.

Unlike the other categories in the Awards, no shortlist will be produced. The judging panel will decide on the most worthy candidate out of the nominations.

No shortlist will be published for this award.

Sales Consultant Award

With this accolade we want to reward the best of the best in field sales.

Who knows the most about the products and can help you with any business need? Who believes in their products and is passionate about what they do?

This award recognises the hard work and commitment of sales reps, territory managers and product specialists working in the Scottish dental market.

Professional Adviser Award

The business side of dentistry has grown in prominence in recent years and more and more companies and individuals have started to offer direct dental-specific advice to the profession.

From specialist dental accountants and lawyers to business coaches and mentors, this new award aims to recognise those companies and individuals who are offering the best advice and making a real difference to Scottish dental practices.

This category is open to anyone advising the profession, be they financial, legal or compliance related. If they help your business thrive and guide you through the red tape, we want to hear about it!

Practice Manager of the Year

We are looking for the ‘go-to’ person within your practice, the person who is truly indispensable to the smooth running of your business.

This category is open to the non-clinical members of staff such as practice managers, business managers, receptionists and administrative staff.

Leadership Award

New for 2019, this award is being introduced to recognise inspirational leadership.

It is open to any individual, in any role, in any area of dentistry. It can be someone in a leadership role, or someone who does not have traditional leadership responsibilities but still exhibits strong qualities of leadership.

We are looking for people who display integrity and honesty; creativity and innovation; commitment and passion; and who inspire and motivate their colleagues and peers.

This award is open to dental laboratories based anywhere in the UK who provide services to the Scottish dental profession.

Innovation Award

This award recognises those individuals, teams and organisations who are pushing the boundaries of the dental profession and finding innovative ways to provide excellent patient care. This could be new techniques, technologies or products, ways of working or communicating, innovative research or academic practice.

The nominees could be working in primary or secondary care, the NHS or private practice, they may be working across organisations, they may be clinicians, practitioners, researchers, academics, manufacturers, professional organisations, or any combination of these, but they will be able to demonstrate inspirational innovative thinking and outcomes that have made a real difference to patients, dentistry and oral health in Scotland, the UK or internationally.
